The Cuyuna Range is an iron range to the southwest of the Mesabi Range, largely within Crow Wing County, lies along a mile-long ( km) line between Brainerd, Minnesota, and Aitkin, width ranges from 1 to 10 miles. Though covered by Pleistocene glacial drift up to feet thick, surveyors noted compass deflection while in the area. The Duluth Complex, the related Beaver Bay Complex, and the associated North Shore Volcanic Group are rock formations which comprise much of the basement bedrock of the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Minnesota in central North America. The Duluth and Beaver Bay complexes are intrusive rocks formed about billion years ago during the Midcontinent Rift; these adjoin and are.

The geology of Minnesota comprises the rock, minerals, and soils of the U.S. state of Minnesota, including their formation, development, distribution, and condition.

The state's geologic history can be divided into three periods. The first period was a lengthy period of geologic instability from the origin of the planet until roughly 1, million years ago.

The Minnesota Geological Survey is a research and service arm of the Newton Horace Winchell School of Earth Sciences at the University of Minnesota. It investigates the geology of Minnesota and provides basic public information on the geology of the state.

The Survey works with state, county, and regional offices to set up geologic data bases. This is a generalized topographic map of Minnesota. It shows elevation trends across the state. Detailed topographic maps and aerial photos of Minnesota are available in the store.
